I bought Shuna carbon bent splits after several long trips including round the Isle of Wight.
My carbon/nylon Lendal kinetic tourer paddles were a bit big with a sudden catch on the water and pulling on my ligaments, the straight shaft hurt the outside of my wrists and the weight killed my shoulders after several hours paddling.
I love the shuna and apart from the same comments re the sand in button and adjust scale coming off I love them and will not change. Happy paddling!

I came across your review and found it interesting. My wife and I have recently bought Werner Cyprus neutral bent shaft carbons, slightly smaller blade than the Corry. We bought them for the weight or lack of it. We are older paddlers 60 and have found that on longer paddles the lightness makes a huge difference. We mix river and Indian Ocean paddling.

I myself am still getting used to the bent shaft and am not sure I would pay the extra next time. I like the idea of a larger paddle for surfing and the occasional white water so maybe when I can rob the next bank (???), I'll get a Corryvreken. I fancy the extra speed to keep up with the young blokes in a sprint.

Like you I am aware that bad habits of using the paddle to push off have to be modified but then we ought to do it right anyway. We live in Perth Western Australia but hail from Dorset.

Thanks for the review - I have just purchased the glass version of this paddle. As an ex marathon kayaker with a high angle stroke and a love for powerful blades I do really like this. Hadn't tried the bent shaft before and took to them very quickly on the paddle - we shall see on the rolling. Nice piece of kit and gets my endorsement.

Thanks for the comments Martin.

I too have had the 'jammed' release button once due to sand/fine grit and once had the sections stuck due to a small piece of grit.

Since then, I now wash the paddle out after every paddle with clean water and it has helped. I do notice some play in the joint for the first 5 minutes or so paddling after I have washed the paddles but it quickly stiffens.

Interesting to hear how you use the feathering. I have yet to try the 30 degree angle but will try it on the next paddle.

Hi just found your site.

I have used this paddle for 18 months,it stops me getting wrist ache but does give me some nasty blisters on my hands and fingers on long missions.

It now has a small amount of play on joint, the feather degree stickers are coming off, the release button has got jammed in sandy water and I have chipped one of the blades.

For me it feels most comfortable with a 30 degree feather but I usually set it flat for sailing downwind and all the way round for punching a headwind.

Bye
