Their current base is in a temporary facility in the Shepherds Wharf Marina, a far from ideal location. The new home would increase response time by around 4 minutes which in serious situations could make a huge difference. The Cowes lifeboat is an Atlantic 85 Lifeboat B-810 Tabbycat – a very large ‘rib’ style lifeboat – that can operate safely in up to F7 conditions.
I noticed the new premises on a recent trip over to Cowes and it is certainly in a prime position for quick access to the Solent. Here’s hoping they reach their target swiftly. I will certainly be making a donation.
