Simon Willis recently released a new podcast over on Sea Kayak Podcasts. This episode featured Harry Whelan, a Youth Worker and Kayak coach who is based at Cremorne Riverside in Chelsea, London and spends his time working with young people and adults paddling on the River Thames.
Having listened to the podcast, I did some investigation on paddling on the Thames and came across this interesting slideshow by Natalie Maderova of a paddle between the Isle of Dogs/Richmond and Tilbury.
Hi liked the Thames pics,I spend most of my time on the Thames estuary, normally alone or with my son ,we’ve both got Scorpios, which I find are brilliant ,my previous boat was a Mcnulty Huntsman which although faster wasn’t suited to a lone paddler.I am out winter and summer every week ,often crossing the Thames from Isle of grain to Southend.I windsurfed for 30years and always said I would turn to sea kayaking one day.we came down to key haven last weekend and paddled to Totland, where we camped ,we made two attempts to thread the Needles on sat ,force 5 and Sunday we got spat out both times and abort ed but had a blast.Ive also paddled north Devon and various other locations ,what a brilliant sport regards pete
