Having first tried a butterfly roll at a recent pool session (thanks to some excellent tuition from Steve Godferry) I had found I could nail the roll with a Greenland Paddle but not with a Euro blade. This weeks club paddle had a focus on ‘extra wetness’ i.e. rolling, rescues and self rescues so having spent a bit of time on other skills I decided to concentrate on the Butterfly Roll with my Werner Euro blades.
I set the feather to neutral and I’m not sure if it was just this or the fact that I had switched from the Valley Gemini SP to the Etain 17.5 (a boat with a lot less rocker) but something seemed to click and I managed to nail the butterfly roll. At the end of the sessions, Steve pulled out his Go-Pro and captured some footage of me performing the roll. A tad dark as the light was failing but nice to have as a little momento so I thought I would share.
