I saw in the New Year watching the Fireworks over Southampton from Hythe Marina then headed out very early on New Years Day to watch the sunrise over the Solent in very cold but beautiful conditions, launching from Calshot under bright moonlight.
I managed to slip in another quick paddle on the the day after New Years Day, shooting over to Cowes from Lepe Beach on another crisp but sunny day.The return journey was incredibly fast thanks to fast flowing tides and I had fun bouncing through the tide race just off the IOW and again near the Cardinal Mark at Stansmore Point.
Arriving back at Lepe I chatted to a small group who had taken an open canoe and creek boat up the Beaulieu River and seen a Seal sun bathing!
A perfect way to start the new paddling year. I hope yours was just as positive and wish readers all the best for their paddling adventures in 2010.
