Washing Kit

Washing Kit

Forces beyond my control have conspired to keep me off the water for the longest period in the last 12 months. A week and a half ago I had a night paddle in some stormy conditions. Landing in some small but confused surf led to a cockpit full of water. Somewhere amongst emptying, carrying and loading the boat I pull some muscles in my lower back. A week later and it seems as if my back is getting back to normal.

However, the UK is currently being battered by some heavy rain and within the Solent area constantly high winds. Keeping an eye on the Southampton VTS live weather feed over the last few days has shown Bramble Bank to be enjoying regular F6-F7 winds. Not ideal paddling conditions.

This enforced lay-off has, however, provided me with the opportunity to give my kit some long overdue TLC. Over the last few months it has been in such constant use that it often fails to get the full rinse, clean and dry it should get between paddles and has been treated to a full check-up.

So whilst I may be cursing my injury and the weather, I think my paddling kit is breathing a sigh of relief and taking a well earned rest. But not for long I hope. Now, Thursday’s forecast doesn’t look too bad…..
