Salopette style with high bib, re-enforced knee and seat areas, neoprene ankle seals, thigh pockets and fleece lined chest pocket. The Yak Quanta paddling trousers have just replaced my 12 year old ‘pink’ Yak salopettes!
These paddling trousers already feel as if they will be as durable and reliable as their predecessors and in the more common ‘black’ material don’t cause such a stir when I pull them out of the kit bag.
The Quantas are made from a combination of Yaks Tri300 breathable fabric with RMR400 fabric protecting the knees and seat area. The seams are well taped and the finish of the trousers is excellent.
The ankle seal are neoprene with velcro adjustment to get a tighter seal, however they will never be water tight and for that you would need to look at a pair of semi-dry trousers.
The fleece lined chest/hand-warmer pockets are more suitable for use on the shore or when used in other paddling disciplines such as open canoeing. Similarly, at first glance the thigh cargo pockets may lack usefulness during a paddle but loading/unloading the car, or around camp in the evening they do come into their own and are very spacious.
In all, the Yak Qaunta paddling trousers are a well made, nicely designed bit of kit and combined with comfortable yet tough, breathable fabric have proved to be worth the investment.
